What is a virus ?

A virus is a small program located in the body of another which, when it is started, loads into memory and executes the instructions its author has programmed. The definition of a virus could be the following:

''Many computer program that is able to infect another by modifying it in such a way that it can in turn reproduce itself''. The real name given to viruses is self propagating codes, but by analogy with the medical domain, the name of ''viruses'' was given to them.

Worms are viruses capable of propagating through a network.

Trojan horses (trojans) are viruses which allow to create a breach in the system (generally to allow their designer to work his way into the infected system to take control of it).

Logic bombs are viruses capable of triggering after a specific event (system date, remote activation...).

PixelWeb antivirus solution

Antiviruses are programs capable of detecting the presence of viruses on a computer, and cleaning it as far as possible if one or more viruses are ever found. The process of cleaning the computer is therefore called virus removal.

The antivirus solution deployed by PixelWeb is supported by the method of signature search (scanning), the oldest method used by antiviruses. It is the most reliable method but it is efficient only if the antivirus has an up-to-date virus base, that is a virus base including the signature of all known viruses.
